A

Acanthus. An ornament resembling the foliage or leaves of the acanthus. Used extensively from ancient Greece to modern times.

Apron or Skirt. Shaped, carved, or pierced horizontal wood used at the lower edges of many types of furniture

Bail. The curved handle of a drawer pull suspended from pivots and backed by an, often ornate, metal plate. Used after about 1700

Banding. A border of contrasting veneer often inlaid in drawer fronts.

Banisters. Upright parts of a chair back

Bole. Colored clay applied over carving as a base for gilding.
